State track games

Track season is just about finishing up, and last weekend we had state championships. I got a silver in the cat. 4/5 keirin, a bronze in the match sprints and a gold in the 75 lap points race. Points racing has always been something that has sat well with me, so I was expecting to do well there, but the other medals was more or less suprises (I had only done a handful of match sprints before, and two keirins). It was warm beyond belief (95 degrees or so) so we gorged ourselves on our race diet of dried bananas and bubbly water, and tried to hang out as much as possible in comfy chairs in the shade under the Bike Central tent.

In the 200M flying time trial, I went so fast I was only a blur. This is not camera trouble, I really became blurry.

Here, A races the womens points race.

A training secret revealed: A has been known to do the velodrome solo foot sprint when noone else is around to scold her. This gives her serious after burner power, she claims. And it is fun.

Hood river county fair

Last weekend we braved the above 95 degree heat to go to the Hood River county fair. Mexican food was had, and goats were petted. We also saw the vegetable competitions, and went on a whirly ride that made me nauseous. The best part for me was the 4H exhibition posters by local kids. See below for two unique contributions.

A poster about the Goonies reunion in Astoria. So cool. The photos of the actors today rock!

Here is another great poster, about the best way to design wind power propellers, together with quotations from the Bible that show how good an idea wind power is. This is the kind of place county fairs are.

Here is the excellent text accompanying the poster.
